PostPosted: Mon Jul 05, 2010 11:06 am    Post subject: Lost SPOT on Devil's Backbone trail - 7.4.10 Reply with quote

On July 4th, I was heading down the Devil's Backbone trail and my SPOT fell off my pack around 10am. Someone picked it up about 10 minutes later and took it to the summit and then turned it off. I called the Mt. Baldy Visitor Center with no luck so far.

It's a SPOT 2, color orange and in the original leather holster.

If you happened to find it, please email me or call SPOT and report it lost.

Thanks!

Ouch.  Best of luck in getting it back.

If you haven't already reported it lost, you might consider doing so.  If the finder tries to use it, re-register it, etc. the SPOT folks can be on the alert.

Hopefully the finder just has been too busy to get in touch with SPOT and will do so after the holiday.

hey if they try to use it maybe you can radio us real time coordinates and we can hunt them down. then we can make'em clean the rock debris off the 39...indefinitely. sort of like that Sisyphus guy.

Perfect punishment!  Although Forest Supervisor Norion (head person over the Station Fire) is a better candidate.

That's a great idea Ze! Too bad I already called SPOT and suspended the unit...doh!

Well hopefully the person who took it will call SPOT and report it. It's just a orange plastic paperweight anyways  Laughing

Thanks, Jeff. Yeah, I didn't see the regisiter on Sunday either.

Howdy Mike,

That is the pits -- I am so sorry  Crying or Very sad I was lucky when my SPOT ran away on San Jacinto last winter -- it was found by a female hiker and SAR member. She contacted SPOT, they contacted me, and she returned it. I'm hoping whoever picked yours up will figure out how to return it.

Miles of smiles,
Ellen

UPDATE:

I got a call today from Globalstar and my SPOT has been found. The person who found it was on vacation and didn't have time to call Globalstar sooner.

Very Happy

PostPosted: Wed Feb 02, 2011 12:56 pm    Post subject: Lost ice axe by ski hut trail entrance , Jan 8th Reply with quote

Hey there people,

I don't know why I didn't think of doing this before, but here god nothing.

On the day Taco and a few others were giving their clinic (Jan 8th), I planted my Black Diamond (dark gray, 70mm) ice axe in a snow bank Right next to the road by the entrance to the ski hut trail, close to the porta potties.

Did anyone happen to find it?? It was my first axe and it broke my heart to lose it Sad. My buddy and I had the same one and when we packed the car I assumed his was mine.. Yup, horrible judgement at that point.
Anyhow, please let me know, thank you very much!

Hey Norma,

Thank you for the suggestion. It is kind of hard for me to do that though since I live in San Diego and currently do not own a vehicle.  I will stop by next time I am there however Wink

Yes it does.. considering how expensive it is!  Take care Smile

Give the center a call at (909) 982-2829.  At least, you can find out if it is there.

I get it!

It's an Ox, but he spelled it with an "e" on the end so it looks more like axe.

Then, it's on the snow and ice, so it's an "ice oxe", which is also how a proper British gentlemen would pronounce "ice axe".

THen, the ox is big, so it would be tough to lose.

Lost a Black Diamond ice axe in the south fork meadows area ( or somewhere around there) of San G., leash with a green metolius biner.

If you run across it, could you please help me get it home to it's owner.

She's doing fine.  We took her out for a little hike to the creek near our place.  She thought leaves and sticks were the best toys.  She laughs and giggle when we take her for a walk -- if she doesn't fall asleep that is.  Smile

Actually not mine at all- I swiped it from my 3rd grader's lunch box.

Like a total dumbass, I left something important lying on the ground where I had lunch today.  If anyone is going there soon, I would LOVE it if you could grab the item for me.  $20 REI gift card as a reward.

Item has no monetary value, but it's valuable to me.

PM me for specifics.

Thank you!!

I lost my SPOT device on a trail run in the Chantry Flats area this morning. Crying or Very sad

Fortunately, it had first separatred from my body so I did not go missing with it.  Alas, it cannot press its own buttons...

It could be anywhere along the Upper Winter Creek, Hoegee's, and Lower Winter Creek trail loop. I also may have dropped it in the lowest tier of the parking lot.

If someone does find it, can you please PM me?  Thanks!

It's a long shot, but whoever lost it might have asked at the visitors center. Perhaps, if you let them know, they could help find the owner.
