That avatar is just a tad overpowering.

And just wanted to say thanks for not deleting me! I am a real person!

Been cruising this board for about the past month, and decided to finally register! Now, in need of a job to fund these crampon/ice axe purchases!

No problemo.

You won't need crampons or an axe in a few months... til' next winter.

Hey Taco. How do I get rid of those ads at the bottom of the post? If you could tell me that would be great. What is wrong with having a large Avatar? I am all about following the rules but don't understand why a smaller one is better? I am new to this site but have been on the San Jacinto one for a few months and others have large ones and all different sizes. Never heard a complaint. Please explain.  Thanks. FIGHT ON.

I had the avatar settings too high, allowing giant avatars. I have my monitor set to 1280 x 1024, which is large, and the avatar was taking up half the screen.  Laughing I switched it back, and your avatar is just dandy right no.

The ads are there until I decide to put something like $200 into buying a forum and domain name.

Hey Taco. Is that picture at the upper left a view of Mt Baldy from Iron Mountain? If not what is it? Thanks.

Lemme know if you are interested in something like that.  It doesn't take $200.  I think a general SoCal forum would be nice, with sections on the San Gabes, San Gorgonio, San Jacinto and Desert (especially as the current San Gorgonio message board is teh suck).  I have a lot of experience setting up PunBB forums (like this one and this one and even this one).

But if it was me, I wouldn't have as many sub-forums as you have, so there's a point of potential conflict.

Thing is, you'd want a way to import the stuff from the existing board so that there was a searchable archive of goodies.

BTW, I'll get to those stickers eventually (in time for next winter!).  Business is really heating up hereabouts.  Just concluded a monster deal with LA County Sheriff.

I agree that the SGWQ message board has some serious limitations.  However, the San Jacinto message board has a nice San Gorgonio section.  The two sections have equal billing.  Before these boards came along, Richard Piotrowski's board (Mt. Whitney, the High Sierra, and Beyond) had a lot of southern California coverage.  It is great to have these boards and they are all pretty active, but I don't see much need for adding more.

Actually, they don't: California: Other Areas

And the San Jack forum has some serious performance issues.

The "Other Areas" forum has equal billing with the San Jacinto one and is mostly about the San Bernardinos or else Mt. Baldy (which is much better covered here).

Any performance issues would be worth discussing with Perry Scanlon.  He is generally pretty responsive.

Actually, your idea of a general Southern California Message Board would be fine -- if the others went away.  For me, the ideal would be for the people who run the various boards to combine forces somehow.  As it is, there is a lot of overlapping coverage on the existing boards.  For example, in a typical week, separate requests for information on, say, Baldy Bowl conditions appear on the SGWA board, the San Jacinto board, this board, and (if we're really lucky) Richard Piotrowski's board and the WPD one!

Of course it's a free country and we can also have as many boards as people want to set up.
