Stickers! Stickers! Stickers!

So about two years ago I offered to develop an Ice Pirates logo for Taco (I was a graphic designer in my distant youth).  Two years went by without much happening, when suddenly a month ago I experienced a burst of creative vigor and started grinding out designs based loosely on a Jolly Roger figure with ice tools.

Style II: white tools, black background

Once I discovered the term "Ice Pirates" is closely associated in the hivemind with a cheesy scifi movie from that distant time when I was a graphic designer, I thought to myself, "This will not do," and settled on a Teutonic replacement that has a more Alpine ring to it: Eispiraten.

Style II: white tools, black background, red text

There's a website and everything (click it and see what happens).

I know Taco is thinking about turning this forum into some kind of more general site for SoCal mountaineering, and should that effort move  further along there is already a domain (several, in fact) up and waiting.  But in the meantime, we have STICKERS!

stickers

So anyone who sends me a street address will receive all the stickers he or she can eat, free of charge.

Now, I would never, ever suggest that people liberally plaster these stickers on public or private property without authorization; that would be vandalism.  But what I personally often do with stickers is leave stacks of them in bars and coffee houses.  By chance, they magically find their own way onto nearby walls, street signs, windows, etc.  Handing them out to schoolchildren works wonders, as well.

So send your mailing address to stickers@badharvest.net .

Variations on the final design, as well as abortive gropings towards perfection, can be see at this link.

Stickers are cheap.  The can be given away by the hundreds.  Tee-shirts, on the other hand, cost real money.  So do embroidered patches.  If there is enough interest and firm commitment, I can get shirts made.  But a minimum order is 124 shirts.
Zach

Oh hell yeah! PM sent.
TracieB

Thanks for the stickers!!

Cool Let's see how much trouble the stick em ups can get into in the OC  bwaaahhhaaahaa!
simonov

In my business, we hand out logo stickers at every opportunity.  One is included in every product package, for example.  Tracie got a few with the Eispiraten stickers.

My office is here in the barrio, and every few weeks these two little Mexican kids, maybe 10 years old, come round begging for stickers.  We give them all they want.  I suspect they take them to school and sell them to the other kids.  Very enterprising; they will go far.

During the last two weeks they have been back TWICE because now I give them Eispiraten stickers too.  They are into the skulls.

I don't give them Bad Harvest stickers because that site is not appropriate for children.
Taco

Reckon maybe the guy who runs the site should maybe have one or two. Wink

I wasn't going to mention that ... some of those subject lines even scared me off!  Embarassed

Moar sticker designs coming soon, if I can convince he sticker printers to do me a deal:

eispiraten_3x4_calif

eispiraten_3x4_usa

eispiraten_3x4_white

eispiraten_3x4_jap

eispiraten_3x4_black

And for Zach:

Nice!

We need some non-skull ones. Skulls are all hip and shit these days with the dang hipster kids and their silly hats and no-bathing and whatnot.

I know, nice to say this now, since I kinda drew the design up initially and whatnot. Mebbe we can have some SGMDF one that's kinda basic?

Oh, hell, I never liked skulls in the first place.  Never got into them.

Let's see if the printers go for it.
Taco

Holy crap, are you gonna print all of those?

We should have a contest on here... CREATING THREAD.
TracieB

No way are you going to get the Ice Princesses to represent with a sticker that says "BIG ASS HAM".   At least, not this big ass....LOL Embarassed

but I like the California republik one...please please
Taco

I'll rock the living crap out of the big ass ham one.
simonov

Dudes and dudettes:

We might bring a lot more traffic to this site by taking Eispiraten stickers on climbs and leaving piles of them in summit registers.

Just an idea.
Taco

We should have ones that say, "Does this piss you off? Look at all these damn stickers up in yo register!" with the URL underneath.
TracieB

Your Big A$$ Ham and Eispiraten stickers are now rockin the register atop Mt. Whitney  Cool  thanks to a super agent who shall remain anonymous.....  bwaahhaa!

Just got some crash damage fixed.  Stickers were the first thing to go back on:

Taco likes things that are off the the wall - Thus the TACO Del Rio (it's a taco stand by his house)

Bad Ass Ham is something David Letterman used to remark about when someone would "win" something - I see you "won a Bad Ass Ham" something like that - check "You Tube" it might be on there. Question  Idea  Shocked  Very Happy

Big ass ham, not bad ass ham. Can't be badass if you got slaughtered and your leg is offered in stores. Laughing

He might be bad ass -- if you're eating the butcher's leg.

I big pile of stickers was deposited in the summit hut on Mt San Jacinto on Saturday.
simonov

Anyone need refills?
Taco

I still have a bunch! Smile

Mind if I start a contest for a new design?
simonov

Fritz and I had a lot of time to chat on our way up to Lone Pine last week.  He agreed with many of you that the California Republik sticker was an awesome design.  Unfortunately, I am out of them.  So a new run is in order.

I'd like to mix up a lot of designs on one run.  We are considering the following (blue are new):

o California Republik
o US flag
o Canada
o Japanese Naval ensign
o A German design, either the current flag or the Prussian flag, or maybe the Bavarian flag (there are mountains in Bavaria; beer as well)
o USSR flag
o Union Jack
o French flag
o Austrian flag
o English (Cross of St George)?
o Scottish (Cross of St Andrew)?
o Dual-use Mexican/Italian flag
o Taegeukgi flag

(that covers all the damned national flags, I think)

o A "This is my ice axe" design
o A new "Big-ass Ham" design featuring this guy:

Burchey

simonov wrote:

I'm honestly about to crap laughing at this.  I will put/take this sticker EVERYWHERE.
Taco

That, and the USSR one would be great, hammer and sickle, but maybe with the hammer as a straight-shaft ice tool and the sickle as something else like a quickdraw/alpine draw or something.
simonov

It just occurred to me that a Korean flag design might be popular with a certain element commonly found in our local mountains.
Taco

Good point. Cool

Only got a few done tonight:

Not so crazy about the Soviet one, but it does share the gold color with the German one.

Dunno.  I kind of like the Soviet one.

Wonder how Koreans would feel about the Korean one.

I'd rather have a North Korean one, and personally I'm kinda "over" the skull and crossed ice tools/axes thing.

Ha.  Too bad!  I never liked the skull from the beginning, but now it's iconic.

It's going to take time and hard work to make this guy a new icon:

This has possibilities too:

It'd look sweet on a Texas flag!

Sorta reminds me of the Grateful Dead:

I'm glad I don't know the words. That song angers me... but it's comical all the same. A beautiful snapshot of life, with no class whatsoever, with the illogical modification of automobiles at its center. All so humans can impress possible mates... who woulda thought doors that stupidly open UPWARDS on a cheaply-manufactured General Motors vehicle would improve your chances of passing along your genetic data?

And I'm off...

i thought it would lower your chances, lol. I wouldnt let someone like that join the car-club, let alone sleep with em!  Shocked   seriously, whats the point of 26in rims...??

Maybe we should just have a picture of 26" rims on the sticker. Oddly enough, it fits the SG's in a way.

I'm about to lose my sh*t over here, I'm crying and trying not to bust out loud in the office.

I went straight to page 8 from the main menu (didn't see the Gaddafi pics on page 7).  I'm greeted with some rap lyrics about 26 inch rims and stupid doors, and then Taco's cracking me up mocking that situation, then cut to a giant picture of Gaddafi saying it "looks like he sharted".  I'm seriously sweating right now I'm laughing so hard.

Thanks guys.  Probably doesn't make sense to anyone else, but I can't get enough.

Oh, btw, got a migraine on Friday, rested, then went up South Fork around 6pm Friday night, set up camp around 8000 feet, got another migraine, spent the night puking in my vestibule.  Packed up and went home in the morning ( trying to spend night number 2 on Gorgonio Summit...not happening).

I want a sticker about that.  How about this?

Best part was, after I heaved into the snowpit for the last time, I muttered "holla atcha boy" to nobody in particular.  I had to maintain my street cred since my 26 inch rims were nowhere to be found.

HHAHAH YES! Done that myself... a strong sense of humor and the ability to laugh at yourself are the three most important things in life.

Moamar/Momar/Moammar/Mopar/Momomoarmarmar is lookin' pretty classy there, Mitch! Kinda looks like he's from the Third Reich though...

I find myself doing a lot of weird things out alone - talking to birds, using rap-related catch phrases, keeping it "real" when it's really not necessary at that place and moment.  I'm starting to understand why my friends always bail on me - it's not the conditions they're worried about.
Taco

Maybe you're on the list of "objective hazards". Wink

Headed out Sunday to Cucamonga and found this doo-rag sticking out of a snow bank on the east side of Bighorn. As first glance  I thought someone ripped off your logo but at further inspection it was missing the ice tools.

Taco

Wow, that's beautiful. Hilarious, but beautiful. Good job Mitch!

I'll take it.

Okey dokey, I have begun negotiations with the stickermakers (the old ones went out of business, so I am using the guys who have been printing my Mesa Tactical stickers for years).  I will be printing all of these, ganged on one sheet:

Also, this one will be a 3" circular die cut:

The Usual Suspects will receive theirs in the mail.

I expect to see these plastered everywhere, and stacks of them in every summit register in SoCal.

If I can get them done in time, I am sending a bunch of the Chinese ones along with a friend who is spending the summer in the People's Republic.

Some more cool Eispiraten stuff is forthcoming soon.  Stay tuned!
Logan

The stickers look great.  Good way to save money by putting them on one sheet.  I travel alot for work and have trips upcoming to India, UK and other European destinations.  We should also leave these in all geocaches along the back country routes we travel.

I would like to be one of the usual suspects to get on the sticker list.  Thanks for the sticker pack I reveived a few days ago. my helmet and snowshoes are adorned already. I am a sticker plastering fool...
