PCT from Bouquet Canyon to San Francisquito CanyonThe 8000 ft. Blue Ridge segment might have been a better choice considering the weather, but this was a great, energetic hike. The trail has been worked recently; McLeod marks were still clearly visible. An apparent altercation between a vehicle and a utility pole had ignited a small brush fire on Bouquet Canyon Road near the trailhead that had just been subdued as I started hiking. Aside from a couple with their dogs near the Francisquito trailhead, there were no other people to be seen on trail all day, nor any interesting critters. I did manage to snag a large (39") partial rattlesnake molting trailside. Unfortunately the former owner was nowhere to be seen.
Bouquet Reservoir.
Cool electrical stuff.
Pacific Crest Trail and Leona Divide Road (6N04.1) above Dowd Canyon.
San Francisquito Canyon Road PCT crossing.
View toward Jupiter Mountain; the trail 14W01 looks interesting.
Whimsical PCT oasis in Spunky Canyon.
Why this hike wasn't such a great idea.

That a ton of walking in high heat. How much water did you bring?

Five liters. It was just barely enough. I should have though to top off the tanks at Green Valley but that would've been too smart.

PCTNice work Elwood, that's one hot area to be hiking right now.
What's the next section you are planning?

I'd've passed out with only 5 liters.

Oh man!
Did you bring your asbestos pack!
Done a lot of work on the trail out there and can tell you it is h...o....t
We had a guy on the trail crew from time to time who knew a bit about the transmission lines too... I always find this stuff interesting
And from my experience the west antelope valley/ high desert / liebre mountains can be cooler than Los Angeles in October
Cheers
