Pasadena Marathon: 2008-11-16

Shameless plug for the home town...

If any trail runners are interested in some flatland running amongst hundreds of your fellow runners, there's the 1st annual Pasadena Marathon/Half Marathon/5K next month - Nov. 16th, 2008.

they better have a bunch of people at the check points. Lots of sections where the route doubles back. People can cheat real easy. I hate cheaters.

I'll be doing this in early december: http://cityofangelshalf.com/

I did the LA half on its first year.  Started from Griffith Park to downtown LA.  It was cold in the morning and many including me did not have a jacket while waiting.  Rookie mistake.

The way I see it you actually did a full marathon.  Very Happy

Joseph,

How'd it go?  I did it too.  Great course and perfect weather.

I don't think its been mentioned that the first Pasadena marathon was canceled (actually postponed to next year) because of unhealthful air due to the fires.

Rescheduled for March 22nd, 2009. Since the L.A. Marathon is no longer a March event (they moved it to later in the year), this is a good opportunity to still do a local run in March.

Sadly, I didn't go. I mysteriously injured my right calve 6 weeks ago which couldn't take the impact from flat running. I let it heal for 2 weeks and felt great while only running at 10% grade. I then tried running at 5% grade, and was great for 5 minutes, then I tweaked the muscle again. Given that it would take probably 3 weeks to recover, I wasn't going to do the race with only a week to build up any outdoor mileage.

How did your time compare to your Baldy race time?
Augie

Joseph,

Too bad about your injury.  They have a way of timing themselves to occur before upcoming running events.  Hope it's healed by now.

Funny you should ask about this 1/2 marathon compared with Baldy Run to the Top.  My time for this one was 1:43 and that's 4 minutes slower than my Baldy time.  I know I was in better shape for the Baldy run.  So all in all, if you were in the same running shape for both, I'd say your times should be pretty equal for both races:

8 miles, but with 4K' gain, compared with 13.1 miles of a rolling course.

Yeah, I was predicting about the same for me, probably would have ended up a few minutes faster on the half than the baldy run.

It's funny how people perceive difficulty - when you tell someone you are doing the Baldy run they think you are crazy  but not a half-marathon, even though they basically require the same energy expenditure.

Although I will say the varied terrain of the Devil's Backbone is more of a pain than anything else.
