Free topo maps for Garmin GPS

If you have a Garmin GPS with expandable memory (eTrex and GPSMAP "x" series and Colorado) you can download free topo maps for it here:

California with 20 ft contours (1.03 GB):

Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming with 40 ft contours:

These custom maps were made by volunteers so the accuracy is not guaranteed.

Free 24K CA Topo Maps for Garmins

Here's another site for free 24k Topo Maps for Garmins.

http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/28

It uses the same data as the above post, but it also loads into Mapsource and can be uploaded into smaller chunks onto older GPS units.

Make sure you have Mapsource version 6.14.1   It has smoother map rendering.

The 24k Topo maps make a perfect companion to Garmin's Topo 2008 maps.  I've got most of LA loaded using Topo 2008 and the Angeles Forest loaded as 24k maps on my old Etrex Vista C.  If the screen gets too cluttered the 24k maps can easily be turned off.

Enjoy.

Thanks for this. . .I had tried the original file, but MapSource would not recognize it. This loaded right in, and I put it on a 2gb microSD for use in my 60cx.
