Frazier Park peaks 8-29With the air being crap. And the forest on lock down. I was not gonna let it ruin my hiking. So ventured up north on the 5 about 20 mins past Six Flags.
To Frazier park.
Bagged Pinos - Sawmill - Grouse - Cerro Noroeste/abel
Saw few deer......But more quails than Tacodelrio has taxidermed to his wall.
Nice n shaded all day. Temps mid 70's Very good hike.
Did some recon on the way back. This area has huge potential for XC adventures. The best was Grouse Mt. Took about 7 hours
~15 mi - 4800ft gain

Cerro Noroeste wasnt that exciting... just an old ski lodge
I had missed the cairn for the peak of sawmill on the way in so i hit it on the way back. For reason reason i think it made the hike better this way...

On the way back i thought it would be a good idea to take the Wildlife Viewing trail back, to you know..........see some wildlife........

Right on! I rode my mt bike on Mt Pinos just last Sunday (and enjoyed a cold beer on the summit at sunset). Wild that it was 95F in Santa Clarita and by 4PM it was 55F (mild rain storm dropped temps..
B4 it was wilderness area, I my biked the route you hiked via the McGill trail. And maybe did once or twice after it became wilderness area, too 
Fab area for backcountry skiing, too.
Also was fantasizing about backpacking to Sheep Camp Springs (on Sawmill Mt) soon
I was lucky enuff to live on Mt Pinos/ Pine Mt Club '93- '96. It sure is a wonderful mountain...

Great stuff. I need to get out that way again. Of course I've got this little thing about becoming a daddy any day now, so it may be a while. 
I've done both XC skiing and snow shoeing out there. Great area.

Mt. PinosHikin Jim - Congratulations!! Please post pictures.
The big ski area parking lot at the Mt. Pinos trailhead is full of telescopes on the Friday and Saturday nights around new moon when the sky is dark. It is a favorite spot for amateur astronomers.

I may offend the delicate sensibilities of some "San Gabriel Mt. fans," but, to me, this forrest looks way more scenic than most of the San Gabriels.
