Ceanothus leucodermis; Chaparral Whitethorn
It is a Wallflower, what precise variety I couldn't say They 're generically known as Wallflower This would be my guess http://www.calflora.org/cgi-bin/species_query.cgi?where-calrecnum=3472

I guess we can agree on one thing it's Ceanothus of one sort or another.... Collectively known as Buckthorn or California Lilac It's pretty when in bloom other wise despised by XC hikers for it's tendency to shred you, & your gear Great stuff if you run low on razor wire
