Fingerpointing, in 3....2.....1http://cbs2.com/firewatch/Fire.Brush.Government.2.1160321.html
| Quote: | Federal authorities failed to follow through on plans earlier this year to burn away highly flammable brush in a forest on the edge of Los Angeles to avoid the very kind of wildfire now raging there, The Associated Press has learned.
The U.S. Forest Service said that months before the huge blaze erupted, it obtained permits to burn away the undergrowth on more than 1,700 acres of the Angeles National Forest. But just 193 acres had been cleared by the time the fire broke out, the agency said.
The agency defended its efforts, saying weather, wind and environmental rules tightly limit how often these "prescribed burns" can be conducted.
Also, Forest Service resource officer Steve Bear said crews using machinery and hand tools managed to trim 5,000 acres in the forest this year before the money ran out. |

On the news last night was some rumor and conjecture that the fire was actually started by USFS personnel.
Just rumor though.
And in a press conference the Forest Supervisor (who looked very overwhelmed like she wanted to go back and hide under desk) seemed to backtrack on the comment of it being human caused and that they were investigating every possibility.

Instead of a controlled 1,700 acre burn, it's a quarter of a million marginally managed burn that's mostly out of control.
I wonder if the real reason was lack of money. Maybe someone is trying to protect funding decisions and redirecting of money or priorities elsewhere.
Funny how rumors start. Tomorrow it might be shown on FOX "News" that President Obama started it while trying to burn his real birth certificate. |
Actually, I thought you were the conspiracy theory guy.
In all seriousness, management of initial resources needs to be examined, and there may well have been an effort to save money, as units were released early on when the fire was relatively small and chances to contain it were better. Money is one thing, human life is another!

I honestly think that a lot of resources went to the Morris fire and when this broke out they started too slow and then had an oww shiiittt moment when they realized the error. If your into conspiracies and rumors, you can think USFS minimized resources to cover their error in starting the fire.
