It's not particularly clear on the Angeles NF website.  Threre's an order dtd Aug 30th announcing a closure:  http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/angeles/o...tationFireClosureMap-01-09-06.pdf

Is this the area now closed?

Wow.  So even Baldy, Stockton Flat, etc?  Extreme.  Guess they can't take the chance of another fire starting.  No resources.

I take it that Burkhart Trail, S Fork Trail, stuff out of Wrightwood, etc. are still open?

I wish they'd keep their freakin' website up to date.

It is my "mis"-understanding the entire SOUTHERN part of the Angeles National Forest is closed

Those trails are in the southern angeles so they are closed

Wait, wait, wait a minute.  Just exactly what counts as the "southern" part of the Angeles?  I was taking "southern" literally that everything south of the Angeles Crest would be closed but everything north (that isn't otherwise closed) would be open, although the entire ACH would be closed.  It seems to me that your're saying the entire ANF that lies somewhat south but very much east of Hwy 14 is closed.   Shocked   Please tell me that I'm wrong.   Crying or Very sad

How about the SBNF portion of the San Gabs?  Closed too?
AlanK

I have seen no mention of a closure of anything east of the Morris Fire area.

Hey, we have until 6:00 tonight!  Let's get out there!

(sorry, gallows humor)

Oh. So by southern, Matt meant eastern. Clear as a bell! Very Happy

I assumed that Matt meant all of the ANF except for the rather sizable Santa Clara piece to the north and west of the San Gabriels.  I was hoping that Matt was wrong.  Alas, he was evidently right.

Yes, I kind of had figured out what he had meant by southern. The area in question is indeed both south and east of the the open part of the ANF. Very Happy

It's good to see that most information being quoted here is at least accompanied by a source and is not pure conjecture and hearsay!

I guess this is what I get for directly quoting the Forest Supervisor!

Stop it it you're killing me!

OK, so the order is now up on the FS site.  It's official.  Sad
http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/angeles/o...FireAreaClosureOrder-01-09-07.pdf

I notice that it's signed by Martin Dumpis and that it says "Acting Forest Supervisor" below his signature.  Sounds like Ms. Norion may truly have gotten overwhelmed.

Map of the area closed
I can't tell from the crummy map if the SBNF portion is open or not.

The written description doen't really clear it up.
